PLUS: Can South Korea sidestep the U.S. embargo on chip shipments to China? They're saying yes. White House has yet to respond.

Event organizers didn’t consider that this visual says that if you’re not White and male you’re not the future of journalism.
In response, event organizers rolled out the usual anti-diversity tropes:
We promote diversity of thought and visible diversity
“We do consider both diversity of thought and visible diversity when curating public events,” Andy Mayer, chief operating officer, Institute of Economic Affairs (UK-based organization)
❝ “The commentators available and able to speak on that topic, on this occasion were all male.” Andy Mayer, COO, Institute for Economic Affairs |
There weren’t enough women available
“Both [visible and thought diversity] however depend on the pool of people available and the reason for an all-male panel, over-represented by Matthews …”
You read the headline wrong
“… [the issue of more Matthews than women] is unremarkably linked to the topic, where the subtitle is more relevant than the headline.
You just don’t ‘get it’
Clearly this was not a panel about the future of all journalism, but a one about digital platform regulation and the funding of news publishers.
Mayer then circled back to the lack of availability trope:
“The commentators available and able to speak on that topic, on this occasion were all male.”
