11-08-2023 Black-Owned Social Media App Spill Snags Another $2M

PLUS: EU Tech Leader Takes TikTok and Twitter (X) to Task Over Content Moderation

We’re excited to hear Spill, a black-owned app designed to harness the power of Black Twitter, earned another $2 million in funding before they even officially open the firm up to traditional venture funding opportunities.

This shows the app is being taken seriously and could change the landscape of social media. Many have felt social media leverages the talent, language, and culture of Black people without spotlighting or giving creators credit. Spill seems to be aimed at reversing that trend, making a ‘for us, by us’ social media platform. Note: Their total pre-seed funding, including today’s $2 million announcement, totals $5 million.
